May 19 Hawai'i Sunset
Another day in paradise! I went to the beach (505 Front Street) and found a lounge chair. It was the first time I had laid in a lounge chair on the beach and I have to tell you, I highly recommend it. I think I finally got some sun on my stomach and chest. I also pulled up my board shorts and got some sun on the white part of my thighs. I can feel the burn now…
Today was my Dad’s 60th Birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD! I wish I could have been there to help you celebrate. I am drinking Coors Light tonight just for you. ($10.99 for a 12 pack) I also talked to my Granddad and he was talking about coming out to visit. I hope he does. I would LOVE that! That would be an amazing time for the both of us.
I talked to a couple of friends today – and for the most part everyone is VERY supportive. They are jealous and wish that they could/ would have moved to a tropical paradise. I always ask what is stopping them? If you want something – go and get it – go and do it. Life is short – you might as well live where you want and do what you want to do. The ones that are a little less understanding – are just worried for me. They are afraid that I have jumped off the deep end and are scared that this is something that is irrational and that I have not thought through. BELIEVE me – I have thought it through. I know why I am here. I know what I must do in order to live and survive. I am smart enough to survive – and get ahead. I have always heard that if you make it in New York City – you can make it anywhere. Well, to me, if I can make it in Maui, Hawaii then I KNOW I can make it anywhere. I believe in abundance and there is plenty of abundance and opportunity in Hawaii. I am grateful for the chance and opportunity! I do miss my friends – but I am also making some great new friends and learning A LOT.
SO back to me… I have am down 2 notches on my belt. I will have to punch another hole in it soon. I have lost about 20 pounds in weight. It is amazing what the sun and exercise will do for you. I have a great tan. My knees are the darkest part of me. They got burned when I went SCUBA diving with Jon & Jan. I rode in the front of the boat and got burned. I got burned so bad that J&J went to get me Aloe and a pint of rum to help with the burn. The rum was for my inside – the aloe for the outside… I am not sure which one worked better – but it worked most excellently. I put on 15 SPF sunscreen today and I think I get more sun when I use sunscreen than when I do not. If someone can explain that – then I would love to hear the answer.
The crescent moon is next to the planet Venus tonight. I always love when the moon is next to a planet. I watched the sunset at 505 Front Street. Clouds were on the horizon – but it was pretty. I hope you enjoy the pictures. I know I did! Aloha!

May 18 Hawaii Sunset
Another pretty sunset. Clouds on the horizon so I have still yet to see the "green flash". http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/atmos/redsun.html
I played horseshoes on the beach as the sunset. I ended up winning. I threw 2 ringers and 1 leaner. It always feels good to win no matter what you are playing.
Not much to write about today. I am going to bed early. Enjoy the sunset:)
The Crescent moon did not turn out so well. It kind of looks more full than crescent and a little blury too.

So I did it... I finally did it!!!
I quit my job. I emailed my letter to my boss - and then I started drinking beer. I stayed up and called my coworker to let him know of my decision. (8am EST - 2 am in paridise...) I bcc'd him on the email to my boss. I am so excited that I can hardly wait to hear the reaction... I asked him to email me the story - so maybe I can post that here too.
I am so relieved....
That is the best thing I have done - in a long - long time :)
I have been celebrating for some time now - so I am off to bed. I should be waking up about the time every one on the east coast ends their day at work - and then I am going snorkeling and free diving and spear fishing. I hope you all have a good day - I know I will :) I know I will see the sun set over the Pacific tomorrow - and it will be beautiful...

Today was a beautiful day:) It is getting hotter but it is not too bad yet. Today was the most beautiful sunset I have seen. It was clear skies with the sun setting over the Pacific and to the right side of the island of Molokai. My first clear, no clouds in the way sunset in Maui. Ahhh what a peaceful sight - the end to another beautiful day in paradise.
I woke up and tried to call my boss on the east coast. Well, he didn't answer either today or yesterday nor did he return my voice mails messages. I wish he would have - I was prepared to ask if I could work remotely or take some "personal time" off. If all I got were a bunch of no's - then I was prepared to resign. Now I have to write an email and send it to him to let me know that I am not returning to the mainland for sometime. I imagine he wants it in writing - so now I have to be diplomatic in my exit letter. I am considering posting my letter on my blog here. What do you think? I think I will wait a few days - to see what happens...
The point of no return. I am actually going to quit my job! Now that I think about it I have imagined this day for over a year. and now that day is finally here... Dun Dun Dun..... I can hear the Star Wars music in my head. I am excited (and somewhat terrified.) On second thought - I am not scared at all because in my mind I have already quit. I just have not let my employer in on our little secret.
So I am going to go write my diplomatic letter now...

About me...
Aloha! Welcome to my site. Thanks for dropping by and please enjoy the views.
My name is Brian. I am from North Carolina and I used to work at a software development company. I have not had a vacation in 4 years and 3 months. I am long over due for a vacation. SO long over due, that I have decided to stay on vacation. I am going to go to Maui on vacation and stay. I have decided that I am going to stay in paradise. I WILL make it work. I will respect the island and the island will in turn take care of me.
The view of the sun setting over the Pacific Ocean is amazing. Every day I wake up and get excited that I am fortunate enough to spend another day in paradise and the goal of my day is to watch the sun set over the water. It is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. I cherish it. I love it. It brings peace and happiness to my soul. I want to share that with you.
I realize that a lot of people dream of doing what I am doing. They long for a better life and do not enjoy the "rat race" that their lives have become. So here is your chance - your chance to share in my journey. Maybe you will only join me on my adventure vicarously. Maybe you will be inspired to make a change in your life. Maybe you will realize that you can achieve your dreams. Maybe you will only enjoy the pictures. No worries. I welcome you to share in my journey, my dream of living in paradise, and my pictures of the sun setting over my Pacific Paradise.
